Advancement in technology
A new breakthrough in fuel cell technology is making it safer than ever for companies to transport bulk hydrogen. We know that this element is very flammable and it has proven difficult to ship because of its low density. It looks like researches have a found a way transport it as ammonia and then convert it back to hydrogen. https://www.powerelectronics.com/aut...-cell-vehicles

I wonder if a new method of transporting it will make it easier for them to go about increasing the infrastructure. I never really considered the difficulties of having it shipped around. Safety has always been a key area of concern around FCV.

This has a big potential to not only increase the ease of which its shipped around, but also the cost of doing so. Similar to the huge tankers that you see for petrol, hydrogen transporters are also incredibly impractical.

If Elon's tunneling system takes off, which I believe it will, there won't be any other better way to transport while keeping the public safe.

Transporting combustible materials underground may actually be more dangerous than surface routes. I haven't looked into too much detail over the Boring tunnels, but I haven't seen any fire suppression systems mentioned.

There are many stages left, what we're seeing now is just a small piece of the pie.
